Trump's AI Order May Have Been A Scheme To Profit Off $12 Slovenian Domain Names
By Tah Foil, . BSN Network. Satire.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Donald Trump signed an executive order last month establishing a national framework for artificial intelligence development, which the White House titled the Super Intelligence Initiative. The order directed federal agencies to coordinate on AI infrastructure, streamline permitting for data centers, and position the United States as the dominant global force in machine learning.
Within seventy-two hours, a blogger operating under the name SleeplessInSeattle99 published a 6,400-word thread alleging that the order's true purpose was to drive up demand for .si internet domains, the official country-code extension of Slovenia, so that unnamed parties with foreknowledge could purchase them at the standard registration fee of $11.99 per year and resell them at an unspecified later date for what the post described as "potentially more."
The theory rests on three pieces of evidence: a chart showing that .si domain registrations increased by an unspecified amount in the week after the order was signed, a photograph of Trump and Melania at Mar-a-Lago from 2019, and a screenshot of a GoDaddy search result confirming that the domain superintelligence.si was, at time of writing, available for purchase.
"The dots are all there," the post reads. "I'm just connecting them. Slovenia. S-I. Super Intelligence. S-I. I don't know how much clearer this needs to be before people start paying attention."
The post has been shared 14,000 times, cited by two podcasts, and mentioned in a newsletter whose tagline is "We Ask The Questions The Media Is Too Afraid To Google."
Slovenian domain registrar ARNES confirmed to regional tech outlet Slo-Tech that .si registrations did rise slightly last month, attributing the increase to a promotional discount it had run on its own website. ARNES noted that the promotion was announced in February and had nothing to do with American AI policy, executive orders, or any member of the Trump family.
That detail appears on page four of SleeplessInSeattle99's follow-up post, filed under the subheading "What ARNES Wants You To Think."
Former Trump advisor Sebastian Gorka appeared on a podcast to address the allegations directly. "This is the deep state, working with the European internet bureaucracy, to distract from the fact that America is winning on AI," Gorka said. "Slovenia has nothing to do with this. Also, Slovenia is a great country. Melania is from there, as you know. Great country."
When asked whether that connection was itself suspicious, Gorka said the question was "not serious" and then stayed on the line for another forty minutes.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment. The domain whitehouseresponse.si was registered by an unknown party on the same day the request was sent. SleeplessInSeattle99 posted about this within the hour.
As of this week, superintelligence.si remains available for $11.99. The person who could most plausibly be accused of cornering the Slovenian domain market has not done so.
