Oil Lobbyist Trying To Reach Trump Accidentally Explains The Entire Government

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Tim Stewart, president of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association, provided the energy industry with what he described as practical guidance this week, advising members that if they need to get a message to the President of the United States, they should contact John Solomon and Amanda Head.

Solomon is a journalist, a podcast host, a special government employee, the founder of Just The News, the editor-in-chief of Just The News currently on leave from Just The News, and the continuing host of a show called Just The News. Head co-hosts the same show and the associated podcast, John Solomon Reports, which Solomon also hosts from his position of not currently being at Just The News.

The arrangement, which Stewart presented as a straightforward networking tip rather than a description of a constitutional crisis, places a man who is technically on sabbatical from his own masthead in the role of de facto message router for the executive branch of the United States government.

Solomon was appointed by President Trump as a special government employee to lead a task force on transparency, a word the administration has placed in quotation marks in official documents, possibly for accuracy. The task force has gathered thousands of pages of documents from U.S. intelligence agencies and is reviewing them for potential declassification, which Solomon would then be positioned to report on his show, on which he remains host, from his government post, from which he is not the editor-in-chief of Just The News.

"If you want to get a message to the president, talk to John Solomon and Amanda Head," Stewart said, according to reporting that several people in the room apparently wrote down and nobody in the administration has disputed.

Industry representatives reached for comment expressed varying degrees of comfort with the process. One trade association communications director, who asked not to be identified because she had already drafted the email to Solomon's show booking address, said she was "treating it like any other media outreach, except the media outlet is also a federal task force."

The task force has not published a contact form. Solomon's podcast has one.

The documents gathered by the task force are expected to form the basis of new disclosures about past elections, a subject Solomon has covered extensively on his show, his podcast, and his website, all of which are separate from his government role in the way that a building is separate from its own lobby.

Solomon declined to comment on his government capacity. His show's social media account posted a new episode the same afternoon.

Stewart did not specify what happens if Solomon is busy recording.
