Bravo Fires Reality Star For Domestic Violence Then Asks Castmates For Their Reaction
By BSN Staff, . BSN Network. Satire.
Bravo Entertainment confirmed this week that it has parted ways with Below Deck cast member Nathan Gallagher following domestic violence allegations, a decision the network described as consistent with its values, which are, presumably, values the network has had for some period of time.
Gallagher appeared on Below Deck for three seasons. Three. Seasons. Each one greenlit by a room full of people who watched the footage, approved the footage, scheduled the footage, and then promoted the footage using Gallagher's face on a graphic with his name on it.
Following the announcement, Bravo turned to the remaining cast members for their reactions, which is a thing that happened and was treated as normal.
Castmate Jess Fowler, 29, told reporters she was "shocked" and "just processing everything," which are the two emotional states most compatible with being filmed while experiencing them.
A Bravo spokesperson released a statement saying the network is "committed to the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the Bravo family," which is a sentence that contains the word "family" and therefore cannot be questioned during a press cycle.
Industry observers noted that the decision to cut ties came after the allegations became public, a timeline the network did not specifically address in its statement, though the statement did use the word "values" twice, which observers said was doing a lot of work.
Marcus Hendley, 44, a television producer unaffiliated with Bravo, explained that the standard industry response to this type of situation involves "a short pause, a sincere statement, and then a very careful look at whether any of this can be repurposed for the reunion special."
Hendley added that he was speaking generally.
Below Deck, for those unfamiliar, is a show in which people with documented interpersonal instability are placed on a boat together with a camera crew and asked to work. The format has been described by its own network as "compelling," which is accurate.
Several fans online expressed support for Gallagher, while several other fans expressed outrage, and a third group expressed detailed opinions about which cast members they found most relatable, and all three groups were equally engaged, which is the metric that matters.
A source close to production said the remaining cast is "staying strong" and "leaning on each other," and that filming is continuing on schedule.
Gallagher has not returned requests for comment. His three seasons of content remain indexed and searchable on the Bravo app, where they have a three-and-a-half star rating.
