Antifa Professor Sells Book About Escaping America Back To Americans For $28.99

Mark Bray, the Rutgers University professor best known for his enthusiastic academic defense of Antifa, has completed his memoir about fleeing the United States to escape what he calls a "fascist political atmosphere." The book ships domestically in four to six business days.
Bray and his family relocated to Spain in the months following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, after Bray said he received credible death threats and had his home address published online. The experience, by his account, was terrifying, destabilizing, and absolutely worth a 300-page hardcover retailing at $28.99 through Penguin Random House, a company headquartered in New York City, in the country.
The book, titled "This Is Fascism: A Family's Flight From the American Dark," chronicles the Bray family's journey from New Jersey to Seville, which he describes in the introduction as "an act of survival" and which his publicist describes in the press kit as "a gripping narrative of resistance" with "strong book club potential."
Bray spoke at length about the project during a Zoom call conducted from what appeared to be a sun-drenched apartment with terracotta tile and a small olive tree visible over his left shoulder.
"Living under the constant threat of political violence, watching institutions crumble, understanding that the machinery of the state had been captured by authoritarian forces, we had no choice," Bray said. "We had to go. And I think this book really captures what that felt like, and I think readers, particularly in the U.S., which is where most of my readers are, will find it very resonant. The book's Amazon listing, which Bray has linked to from his social media accounts three times this week, currently has a five-star review from someone named DeborahReads who calls it "essential" and "a document for the ages." Shipping is free with Prime.
Colleagues at Rutgers, where Bray remains on unpaid leave, described the project in generous terms. "Mark has always been willing to go further than most people," said one faculty member who asked not to be named because, she clarified, she is "really more of an acquaintance."
The publisher's catalog describes the memoir as "a searing indictment of American democratic backsliding," which is accurate in the sense that it was written by an American, edited by Americans, designed by Americans, printed in the United States, distributed through American logistics networks, and will be sold primarily to Americans at American airport bookstores for $34 in hardcover.
Bray has confirmed a U.S. book tour for March, with stops in New York, Chicago, Boston, and Portland. He will fly back in on a U.S. passport.
When asked whether returning for a fourteen-city tour complicated his thesis about the country being uninhabitable, Bray said the question reflected "exactly the kind of bad-faith engagement the right uses to deflect from structural analysis."
He then mentioned that the audiobook version, narrated by himself, is also available.
The audiobook is nine hours and forty minutes long, which is, coincidentally, the same amount of time it takes to fly from Seville to Newark.
