One of These Attorneys Was Made in America and the Fake Version Was Made in China. Can You Tell the Difference?

BSN put two attorneys side by side this week and asked readers one question: which one is the original?

On the left is Michelle Obama. Princeton, then Harvard Law, then an associate at Sidley Austin in Chicago, where she was assigned to mentor a summer associate named Barack and never fully recovered from the experience. Made in America, built to last, still under warranty.

On the right is Katie Zacharia, the White House's outgoing press secretary and the newer model. Same general shape, same confident smile, a very convincing courtroom finish. From across the room most people could not tell them apart, and that is exactly the business model.

Experts in counterfeit goods say the giveaways are always in the details. The original comes with the paperwork. The copy comes with a press office. The original passed the bar the first time. The copy is still waiting for the shipping container to clear customs.

BSN showed both photos to a focus group of shoppers outside a discount mall. Eleven of twelve picked correctly. The twelfth asked whether the cheaper one came in a two pack.

Consumer advocates offer the same advice they give for handbags and sneakers: if it looks like the real thing, costs a fraction of the price and showed up overnight, check the label before you put it in front of a judge.

So look closely. One of these attorneys was made in America. Can you tell which?

This is satire. The events and quotes are invented and none of it is real news.
