Trump cancels plans to visit Barbados amid allergy concerns.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Donald Trump has formally withdrawn from a planned state visit to Barbados, citing allergy concerns raised by the White House Medical Unit in an internal briefing that officials declined to release but confirmed exists on paper.
The visit, which had been announced two weeks ago with considerable fanfare and a photograph of Trump pointing at a globe with his thumb, was set to be the first presidential trip to the Eastern Caribbean in over a decade. Barbados had prepared a formal reception, a seventeen-vehicle motorcade, and, according to a government spokesperson, a rum punch that Prime Minister Mia Mottley described as "not optional."
The trip was cancelled Thursday morning.
"The President takes his health extremely seriously, and the Medical Unit identified environmental factors that present a non-trivial risk to his comfort," said White House spokesman Derek Loughran, reading from a prepared statement and then folding it immediately, as though hoping nobody would ask for it.
Loughran confirmed that the allergen or allergens in question had not been identified by name in the official briefing, but were described as "consistent with the broader regional atmosphere."
Asked to clarify what that meant, Loughran said: "Warmth. Humidity. Flora. The kind of general outdoor conditions that the President's physicians have assessed as suboptimal at this time."
He then said he had another call.
The Barbados Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement expressing disappointment and noting that the island's air quality index has ranked in the top tier of the Western Hemisphere for eleven consecutive years. A ministry official, speaking on background, said they had offered to remove flowering plants from the motorcade route, reschedule to a cooler month, and source a hypoallergenic lei, none of which were acknowledged by the White House.
"We also offered to keep him indoors," the official said. "It is an island. There are many fine interior spaces here."
Dr. Pamela Rhys, a Washington-based immunologist with no connection to the administration, told reporters she was unfamiliar with any allergy profile that would specifically contraindicate Barbados while leaving the patient cleared for, as she put it, "every other thing the President does, including the rallies, the golf, the outdoor press gaggles, the tarmac events, and Mar-a-Lago, which is also in the tropics and also has flowers."
She added: "I'm not saying there's no allergy. I'm saying I'd need to see the briefing."
She has not seen the briefing.
Former National Security Advisor John Bolton, who was not consulted, told a podcast on Friday that cancelling a state visit for medical reasons was "not without precedent" but that the precedent he was thinking of involved an actual diagnosis. He then said he was not going to speculate. He then speculated for four minutes.
Trump addressed the cancellation briefly at a Friday afternoon event in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, saying: "I love Barbados, beautiful place, tremendous people, tremendous, but my doctors said it's not the right time. They know what they're talking about. Very brilliant doctors. And honestly I've been feeling incredible, incredible, but you listen to your doctors. You respect the process."
He then pivoted to steel tariffs.
Barbados has not rescheduled the rum punch.
This is satire. The events and quotes are invented and none of it is real news.
